How Covid 19 Will Affect Student Accommodation In The UK 2020-21

StudentLetsUK recently organized a webinar on student accommodation in UK and how Covid-19 will affect the 2020-21 academic year. The webinar was conducted by Vincenzo Raimo, Chief Relationship Officer, Unilodgers Inc.The aim of this webinar was to enlighten students and their parents on various student accommodation options and how Covid-19 will affect this academic session.

The webinar format was following:

  • Student accommodation during lockdown
  • Plans for new academic year platform to show how easy it is to book your accommodation.
  • Accommodation options for new academic year
  • Booking your private hall with StudentLetsUK

This webinar was mostly attended by students and parents from Cyprus who are looking for student accommodation in UK. Vincenzo Raimo said, “The universities plan to start the session broadly on time on the month of September or October on campus for undergraduate students.” However, this year will have some regulations. To keep up the social distancing regulations, the lectures will be taken in small groups. All the lectures with a large number of students will be conducted online.

He also threw some light on different type of accommodations—university housing, shared housing and private halls. Though shared housing is the cheapest but it comes with a set of utility bills. He speculated that this year due to Covid-19, more students will likely opt private halls as they offer higher facilities like private bathroom.

What can be expected this year?

Due to Covid-19 a lot of regulations are put in place, hence students planning to study in UK must know all of them before arriving here. All the students coming in UK must have a local address, making it a crucial year for accommodation per se. So make sure you book the accommodation well in advance so that you have an address in hand when landing to UK. Failing to do has a fine of up to £1000.

Another important regulation is that the students coming to UK will have to self-quarantine themselves for 14 days which means they will directly have to go to their accommodation. They are only allowed to go outside for essential items such as food. However, many universities are making arrangements in this regard so that students don’t have to step outside every day. It is quite likely that their temperature will be taken once they enter into the university, although there are speculations that these regulations will be relaxed gradually.

At the end, he showed that how StudentLetsUK can help in your accommodation search and how you can use the website to make the bookings at the comfort of your home.
